The project is now being managed by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), who contracted Newport Construction to perform the work. The funding is coming from the Transportation Improvement Program, initiated by MassDOT.

Ultimately, this project's goal is to build a “Complete street". A Complete Street provides safe and accessible options for all travel modes - walking, biking, driving, and transit - for people of all ages and abilities. Specific improvements include: Improved pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, a reconstructed roadway following modern pavement standards, and reduced stormwater runoff.

Timeline Questions:

The project as a whole is expected to take 4-years to complete. The construction will be moving in waves and will not be scattered throughout Mount Auburn Street the entire time. Typical work hours will be from 7 AM - 4 PM, Monday through Friday. Occasional weekend and/or nighttime work may be required.

Traffic Questions:

In light of the reconstruction efforts, road closures and parking restrictions will be in effect throughout the project duration. Biweekly updates will be dispatched to inform you of the affected areas and provide guidance on closures and other pertinent information. To stay informed, please ensure you are signed up to receive email notifications here. Additionally, physical signage will be deployed to indicate any detours caused by the construction.
