Milling (removing top layers of pavement) will take place on Mount Auburn Street between Arlington Street and Melendy Ave on Monday, September 29, 2025. In preparation for paving.
Paving
Paving operations are scheduled as follows:
Tuesday, September 30, 2025: First layer paving on Grove Street and Arlington Street, moving toward Mount Auburn Street.
Wednesday, October 1, 2025: First layer paving on Mount Auburn Street, from Templeton Parkway to Melendy Avenue.
Thursday, October 2, 2025: Second layer paving on Grove Street and Arlington Street, moving toward Mount Auburn Street.
Friday, October 3, 2025: Second layer paving on Mount Auburn Street, from Templeton Parkway to Melendy Avenue. If work is not completed Friday, it will continue on Saturday, October 4, 2025.
Traffic and Sidewalk Impacts
There will be detours in place during the completion of paving both the first and second layers. (See detour maps below)
During paving on Grove Street, Grove Street will be closed from Coolidge Hill Road to Mount Auburn Street.
Traffic heading toward Mount Auburn Street from Grove Street will be detoured via Coolidge Hill Road to Nichols Avenue, then to Bigelow Avenue, ending at Mount Auburn Street.
Traffic heading toward Grove Street from Mount Auburn Street will be detoured via Bigelow Avenue to Nichols Avenue, ending at Coolidge Hill Road back onto Grove Street.
The Wells Avenue parking lot will remain accessible through the Arlington Street entrance.
During paving of the intersection of Arlington Street and Mount Auburn Street, Arlington Street will be closed up to Maplewood Street.
Traffic needing access to Mount Auburn Street from Arlington Street will be detoured via Maplewood Street to Kimball Road, reconnecting with Mount Auburn Street.
Traffic heading toward Arlington Street from Mount Auburn Street will be detoured via Kimball Road to Maplewood Street, ending at Arlington Street.
During this work, you can also expect temporary lane shifts. One travel lane in each direction will be maintained on Mount Auburn Street. Access to Templeton Parkway and Kimball Road will be limited only when paving is taking place at their Mount Auburn Street entrances. Detour signage will be posted at this time and impact is anticipated to be limited.
Parking Impacts
Street parking in this construction area on Mount Auburn Street will be restricted. Please follow the parking closure signs that are posted by crews starting at 7:00 am each morning. Any parking closure signs that are posted will be removed from the area by 5:00 pm each day.

Sidewalk Concrete Installation & Drainage
Concrete sidewalk installation and pouring will occur on the westbound side of Mount Auburn Street, between Belmont Street and Keenan Street, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Work is scheduled to continue in this section on Monday, September 29, 2025. Notices have been distributed to properties directly affected within the pouring area. Information on travel and parking impacts is provided below.
Drainage work will be completed on Mount Auburn Street between Dexter Avenue and Adams Street.
Traffic and Sidewalk Impacts
The westbound sidewalk will be closed for this work starting again on Monday, September 29, 2025 at 7:00am. A bypass sidewalk on the westbound side will be opened up while this work is being completed.
During this work, you can expect temporary lane shifts and the possibility of access to sideroad entrances being temporarily limited. One travel lane in each direction will be maintained on Mount Auburn Street. Detour signage will be posted should the access to sideroads be limited or closed during this work. Any sideroad access impacts is anticipated to be limited.
Parking Impacts
Parking on the westbound side of Mount Auburn Street between Belmont Street and Arlington Street will be prohibited while work is active between 7:00am and 3:30pm. Street parking in the drainage construction area on Mount Auburn Street will be restricted. Please follow the parking closure signs that are posted by crews starting at 7:00 am each morning. Any parking closure signs that are posted will be removed from the area by 5:00 pm each day.
